Forclaz is an old word used in the north French Alps meaning "narrow gap." I've cycled at least seven "Col de la Forclaz" - some unpaved. The highest, at 2488 metres, Colle Fourclaz in the old Savoyard part of Italy. The final stretch just before the col is next to a tiny ski station that was completely closed. Not even remnants of snow.
